Mavens & money

Husband sells amplifier!                         (3/9/15)

Maven is as maven does,

Amplifies, becomes the buzz.

Forward march and buy that amp,

plug it in, play like a champ.

What the maven chooses, buys,

must be best, they all surmise.

*R is a maven, I decided after reading Malcolm Gladwell.

Moolah Alternative Pome, or Catalogers Love Old Vocab     (3/16/15)

I work and work and work all weeks

to get us few more spondulix.*

I do not need to do this now,

could leave this job and just say 'ciao'!

Another spelling, "spondulicks"

allows for rhyming with deep six.

The origin, I hear, is Greek --

I know this pome is somewhat weak.

Let's try to laugh, accommodating

the word that is so antiquating.

*Working in a library improves one’s vocabulary (and brain). Spondulix is 19th century slang for moolah, cash, specifically a reasonable amount of spending money. Money and retirement were clearly on my mind.

Three old work-related poems

Interlibrary loan    (3/11/14)

When Gaylor comes a lookin' for a special book,

we all drop what we're doing and help to take a look.

Someone really wants this precious little tome?

Someone wants this Aphra Behn, to take it with them home?

We are on the double until we find it found;

What's the cover look like, just how was it bound?

Is it many pages, series classed together?

Check your shelf and put your hands on every piece of leather.

*2020 note: really miss Gaylor.

Time for a pome?     (3/12/14)

There are more documents in the world,

from just our government; if unfurled,

would go around the globe ten time,

or stacked upright, to moon would climb.

At least I have just "transportation,"

which isn't source of much elation.

Must try to be more optimistic,

this task is only slight sadistic.

Oh, there's another serial!

Don't have to do, it's managerial...

just give that one to Katherine,

be glad and smile like saccharin.

Scattered thoughts pome    (3/13/14)

Yes, i'll say i am a cog,

life can be a bit of slog.

Fight it, yes, i'm trying to,

not an easy thing to do.

Attitude to readjust,

this is what to do i must.

oh, that house is albatross.

let's just sell it at a loss.

Also, do i miss my desk,

all is scattered, in a mess.

here's the weekend, zip, it's done;

Let's be sure to have some fun!

**Was still a couple of months from selling my mother's house (the "albatross).

Weekend! or, three catalogers want to go home

What a challenge came our way
(and so late p.m. Friday)
m and d and triple c...
those old dates take all us three!
Old Greek books, well, are they right??
We don't have the mental might.
Title page and which edition?
Anarchy, three-way sedition.
Table them until next week;
three subconsciousnesses seek
o'er the weekend answer true.
Then we'll know just what to do!
